IT

Film: IT
Year: 2017
Director: Andrés Muschietti
Country: USA
Runtime: 135 mins

The 2017 hit horror film, IT, is now playing in cinemas across the globe and I have to say, I’m very impressed. The recent film is a remake of the 1990 version, which follows the lives of seven pre-teen outcasts that fight an evil demon who poses as a sadistic clown called ‘Pennywise the Dancing Clown’. The film explores the plight of these seven children as they endure a battle to overcome and defeat this shape-shifting evil clown. According to the novel, this clown emerges from the sewer every 27 years to prey on the same town’s children. As the first film was released in 1990, the directors were creative to release this remake in 2017 (27 years later) to add to the eeriness. This is a superior psychological thriller that kept me intrigued and tense for the most part! Although the storyline was impressive and very entertaining, I was most impressed by the young cast. The movie extracts winning performances from a relatively unknown and young cast. Not only do these actors excel in the tense sections of the film but also when the situation calls for some light relief and humour as well. The films manifestation of a typical evil clown was very impressive and not as expected. Although I thoroughly enjoyed this film, I would not consider it too be super scary. So in terms of horror I would rate this film 6/10.

Over rating: 10/10
