The Vampire Diaries, created in 2009, is one of my all time favourite tv series which encapsulates audiences through its riveting plot line, exploring various relationships and character building throughout. The series incorporates universal themes and everyday experiences such as the journey through high school, relationships and dramas which teen viewers can relate to, and intertwines this with mystical qualities. The two initial vampires, brothers Stefan and Damon weave their way into Mystic Falls, changing the lives of all characters around them. Magic, witches and werewolves are also included, adding an even greater layer to the show. 

By the end of the fourth episode the storyline really picks up as varying plot lines begin to develop and the journey begins. Elena Gilbert and her best friends Bonnie and Caroline share an unbreakable friendship and showcase to viewers the meaning of true friendship in which viewers can relate to. As the show progress, Elena forms an undeniable connection with Stefan, but little does she know he is a vampire. Brother Damon, appears to cause havoc in Mystic Falls and attempts to claim Elena for himself. This love triangle stems to form the captivating plot line in which numerous other storylines are built upon.

Overall, this show pulls on audiences’ emotions and has been so successful with its eight seasons and 171 episodes. It even has a spin off show, ‘The Originals’ based on a key family in the series, which highlights its success as a TV series. I would highly recommend this series to anyone interested in supernatural drama.
