The Expanse is set on a series of Sci-fi novels written by a duo, Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, known collectively as James S. A. Corey. The story takes place in a future where humanity has colonised the solar system, and deals with the tension between those on Earth, Mars and inhabitants of Asteroid Belts. The series follows multiple groups of characters, switching between all stories as they slowly intertwine unveiling political conspiracy and an unknown threat to humanity. The show really starts to build during its second season as characters begin to come into their own through growth and story lines begin to line up, driving forward the mystery. The Expanse is one of those rare shows that actually gets its science right has been described as a story about people “responding to fear – fear of the other, fear of the new, fear of inequality, fear of death”. I would recommend this to any fans of sci-fi, in particular, Battlestar Galactica and Firefly.
